Abu Dhabi and Dubai Step In to Protect Stranded Travellers as Hotels Ordered to Extend Stays

Thousands of travellers caught in unexpected flight disruptions across the United Arab Emirates have received reassurance after authorities in Abu Dhabi and Dubai ordered hotels to extend stays for guests unable to leave the country.

Following widespread airspace closures linked to escalating regional tensions, many visitors suddenly found themselves stranded — some reaching hotel checkout times with no available flights home.

In response, tourism authorities in both emirates issued urgent directives to hotels, asking them not to check out affected guests and instead allow them to remain until safe travel arrangements become available.

Importantly, officials confirmed that travellers will not bear the financial burden of the extended stay. The cost of additional hotel nights, along with essential hospitality services, will be covered by the government.

The decision was coordinated through the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi and Dubai’s tourism authorities, ensuring that families, transit passengers, and holidaymakers are provided stability during an uncertain period.

For many stranded visitors, the move has transformed what could have been a stressful travel crisis into an experience marked by reassurance and care. Rather than facing unexpected bills or searching for last-minute accommodation, guests have been able to remain safely in their rooms while airlines work to restore normal flight schedules.

Officials said the measure reflects the UAE’s commitment to hospitality and visitor welfare, emphasizing that travellers affected by circumstances beyond their control should not suffer additional hardship.

Support measures are expected to remain in place until airport operations and international flight routes fully return to normal.
